To me it is unique, quality finds, affordable prices and a great range. Vintage, second hand and shabby chic is all the rage in today’s fashion and home decor.
But here’s a questions, how do you find those treasure troves. The backstreet spots. Or the real thrifters paradise amongst so many chain stores, and rising prices in the second hand shops? Maybe the answer is right in your back yard or maybe its in this blog post!

5 of the best op-Shops to visit in Perth’s South!
1. The Upcycle Barn Port Kennedy
The Upcycle Barn Port Kennedy has got to be one of my favourite, second hand and vintage furniture spots in Perth. Tracy hunts for beautiful, forgotten pieces and will restore then to their former beauty. I have come across beautiful tables, vintage kitchen goods, fine china, baskets, linens and more. Tracy is an absolute guru at upcycling. Along with vintage gems she stocks many of the chalk paints, stains and knobs to help you take even your own beautiful pieces back to their former glory. Once you visit this hidden gem you will want to go back again and again.
2. Vinnies on High Street Fremantle
This is not your typical St. Vincent De Paul Op Shop. This quaint little second hand store is filled with treasures including linens, beautiful baby items and vintage clothes. I love the quality of the good they stock here and they have a curated eye especially for second hand clothing. Many of the thrift stores along High Street in Fremantle are fantastic to check out. This prime location is great for a fun shopping day with friends. To top it all off its right near the Raw Kitchen in Freo for a delicious lunch or coffee stop during you trip.
3. Good Sammies Pinjarra Road Mandurah
Why do I highlight this shop? Well for the simple fact of always having success with clothing, and home decor items from this spot. I find some good sammies to be hit and miss but the lovely staff keep the item organised and displayed well. There is always an abundance of high quality clothes, leather shoes and unique decor or kitchen items. Some of my favourite purchases from this store include brand new brown leather boots, linen tops, baby clothes and books.
4. Salvos Baldivis
This new Salvos is great for furniture and clothing items. The team keep things organised and on display and continuously bring in high quality goods. Salvos can be more on the pricey side when it comes to thrift stores but this particular store often has new with tags items and barely used baby clothes that are worth the look and the price.
5. Anglican Op SHop – Singleton
Why does this tiny little back street thrift store get a mention? Well a few reasons… Firstly, I have the best success and most beautiful finds from this tiny little op shop in my local area. Secondly, I am able to pop into this store on a regular basis to just check to see what on hand. This allows me to locate these beautiful finds. Lastly the team at this op shop are some of the most wonderful staff. There prices are truly second hand shop prices. Allowing you to buy high quality second hand goods for just a few dollars. The ladies and gentlemen here are always willing to help and offer unique items that only a neighbourhood boutique op shop can offer.

- Mouth Hawthorne – Scattered with op shops including Vinnies Mount Hawthorne, Save the Children, Salvos and Red Cross all within a two kilometer radius.
- Port Kennedy the golden mile – Along port kennedy drive contains a large Salvos and Vinnies, and just around the corner is a delightful little good sammies and finally the animal welfare op-shop. Don’t be fooled by big names, it’s the little guys that really steal the show! Take The Upcycle Barn for example this is a collectors paradise focusing on vintage furniture, homewares and linens. Tracy has an eye for detail, upcycling and her prices make it possible for every homemaker to shop vintage!
- Mandurah Pinjarra Road – along this busy road are several hotspots and maybe its the location but in reality there are always a great pair of leather shoes, some brand name clothes and so much more to be had along this stretch. My personal favourite is the Good Sammies, beautifully organised and packed full of goodies. Another one to check out is Rens Retro for vintage homewares and the Halo op shop for furniture and bric a brac!
- High Street Fremantle – Beautiful vintage goods that can sometimes come with a price tag to match but also offers you better quality/brands and sometimes almost brand new items!
Op shopping success or fail
Much of thrifting is dependent on your time of day or headspace. You are going to have some trips where there is nothing of value to take home. Don’t despair, patience, persistence and an open mind to enjoy the thrifting of it all is worth all the patience needed to get there!
